Life Insurance
Life insurance is the benefit employees rarely think about and families never forget. We place it at the group level, the individual level, or both.
Who it is for
Employers building a benefits package, and individuals whose group coverage is not enough on its own.
- Group basic life – inexpensive and highly visible
- One-or-two-times-salary rarely covers mortgage, spouse and college
- Job-provided coverage disappears the day employment ends
- Employers adding basic life and AD&D to a group program
- Employees who want to buy up voluntary or dependent coverage at group rates
- Homeowners with a mortgage and dependents at home
- Business owners protecting a partner buy-sell agreement or a key employee
- Anyone who has changed jobs and left their old coverage behind
What is covered
Group basic life and AD&D
- Employer-paid, flat amount or salary multiple
- No health questions up to the guaranteed-issue limit
- Accidental death & dismemberment usually paired
Voluntary and dependent life
- Employee-paid buy-up, deducted through payroll
- Spouse and child amounts available
- Above the guarantee: evidence of insurability required
Individual term life
- Fixed benefit for 10, 15, 20 or 30 years
- Matched to a mortgage or child-raising years
- Simplest, cheapest protection per dollar of benefit
Permanent life
- Whole and universal designs, in force for life
- Builds cash value
- Estate planning, business continuity, final expenses
How AIS helps
- Right-sizing the amount. We work from real obligations – mortgage balance, income replacement years, education and final expenses – rather than a round number.
- Group and personal together. We quote the group plan and show what an individual policy adds on top, so the two are not bought blind of each other.
- Guaranteed issue first. Where a group plan offers coverage without medical questions, we make sure employees take it before recommending underwritten cover.
- Beneficiary hygiene. Stale beneficiary designations are the most common problem at claim time. We prompt for a review at every Open Enrollment.
- Portability and conversion. When an employee leaves, we explain what can be converted or ported and by when, before the window closes.
- Claims. We help the family file, and we stay on the carrier until it is paid.
Why group life alone is rarely enough
Group life is cheap because it is tied to employment.
- Coverage generally ends with job change or retirement
- Replacing it later is harder – older, possibly less healthy
- Personal term locks in today's rate class
- Follows you regardless of who signs your paycheck

A common starting point is replacing several years of income plus clearing the
mortgage and expected education costs, less what is already in savings and
existing policies. It is a calculation, not a rule – we do it with you.
Term covers a defined obligation for a defined period at the lowest cost per
dollar of benefit, which fits most families. Permanent coverage suits needs that
never expire – estate liquidity, a business buy-sell, a dependent with
lifelong care needs – and many households pair a small permanent policy
with a term core.
Not for group coverage up to the guaranteed-issue amount, which is the point of
offering it. Elections above that limit, and individual policies, go through
underwriting – though many carriers now offer accelerated processes without a
paramedical exam for healthy applicants at moderate face amounts.
Coverage generally ends with employment, but most group contracts allow the
employee to convert to an individual policy or port the coverage if they act
within a short window after termination. We tell departing employees what the
window is as part of the termination process.
Yes – key-person coverage pays the business if it loses someone whose
absence would hurt revenue, and buy-sell funding gives surviving owners the cash
to buy out a deceased partner's share at an agreed value. Both need the paperwork
and the policy to match, so we coordinate with your attorney and accountant.
